y grandkids live too far away for my comfort. Luckily there are video calls for the times in between visits. But have you ever tried to keep a 2-year-old engaged in a meaningful conversation over a conference call? It can be tricky, and sometimes, well, a little frustrating.

Luckily, there are songs you can sing, which they just might love!

My grandson loved The Bee Song so much when he was a baby! Every time we got on a zoom call he would put his tiny hands together to make the beehive. We sang The Bee Song over and over when I visited, while I sat next to him, with him in his car seat, at dinner, during playtime.

Then one day he put his tiny hands together to ask for The Bee Song, and he said “bee,” his first word. The cutest thing ever!

The Bee Song is the first song in my Baby-Led Piano® “Songs to Sing and Fingerplays,” and it helps kids learn about all of their fingers, not just their thumb and forefinger, which are the most commonly used fingers. For piano playing, you need to be able to use all of them equally, but babies and toddlers don’t care about that. They do, however, LOVE The Bee Song!

Now that little cutie pie is almost 5 and he’s learning jazz chords, composing cool songs of his own, beginning to read sheet music, and is the leader of a band with his cousins and his younger sister. Sometimes he lets his dad join.

Music is a way of life, and it begins in infancy. Playing music together is so much fun!

Of course there are all the benefits like brain growth, language acquisition, increased communication between the right and left hemispheres, blah blah blah. What matters most is how much fun it is when I get to play tambourine in my grandson’s band, Tiger to the Roof!

Learn The Bee Song here, then sing it with your littles!

As always, have so much fun!
